In the first five weeks of Russia’s war against Ukraine, over 400 000 Ukrainian citizens have been transported against their will to Russia, according to Ukraine’s ombudswoman as quoted by Euronews.
Lyudmila Denisova, who has responsibility before the Ukrainian Verhovna Rada to monitoring human rights abuses, has visited Brussels to inform about Russian atrocities in Ukraine during the war.
«Our citizens were deported from our territory to their territory,» the official informed. «They went against their will they were taken by force first to [a] filtration camp in Donetsk region. After that they were taken to Russia by bus. Then they are taken by train to different places, including depressive regions of the Russian federation, like Sakhalin.»

As to the long-besieged south-eastern city of Mariupol, Denisova that what is happening in Mariupol was genocidal as in more than a month of war, there has not been one viable humanitarian corridor out of the city, where there are still more than 100 000 civilians. The UN coordinator for Ukraine has described the situation in Mariupol as «hell», with civilians hiding from constant shelling and lacking any access to food or water, Euronews reports.
