US President Donald Trump is in excellent health and his high cholesterol is “well controlled”, White House physician, US Navy Captain Sean Barbella, said in a report released on Sunday, the 13th of April, two days after Trump underwent a routine health check-up, according to Reuters.
This is the most detailed information on the 78-year-old Trump’s health since he took office as US President in January.
“President Trump’s cognitive and physical health is excellent and he is fully capable of carrying out his duties as commander-in-chief and head of state,” Barbella wrote in his report.
The report notes that Trump’s medical history shows that his high cholesterol levels are “well controlled” and that he takes two drugs to control them – rosuvastatin and ezetimibe, the generic names of the brand-name drugs Crestor and Zetia.
The report also indicates that Trump has scar tissue on his right ear as a result of a gunshot wound. He was shot at a rally in Pennsylvania last year. His hearing was said to be normal.
“I think it went well. … Every check-up you can think of, I was there for a long time, annual health check-ups,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on Friday after the examination. “I think I did well.”
Barbella’s report also makes reference to Trump’s history with Covid-19. Trump was hospitalized in October 2020 during a serious bout with the virus.
The report also indicates that Trump uses mometasone cream to control rosacea, a condition that can cause facial redness, and takes aspirin.
The report also states that Trump has received all recommended vaccines.
Trump has made false claims about the link between vaccines and autism, which were often mentioned by his Health and Human Rights Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy has continued to question the safety and effectiveness of vaccines contrary to the scientific evidence, even now, as the measles outbreak continues in the US. But he has also argued that the vaccine is the best way to prevent the spread of the virus.
Trump told reporters that he also took the cognitive test because he wanted to “be a little bit different” than his predecessor, former President Joe Biden, who is now 82 years old.
According to the Barbell report, Trump scored the maximum score on the Montreal cognitive test – 30 out of 30.
During last year’s presidential campaign, Trump tried to present himself as younger and more capable than Biden. Biden’s disastrous debate performance last year raised questions about his mental sharpness and he eventually dropped out of the presidential race.
Barbella’s report on Trump concludes that his “active lifestyle” positively affects his health, citing daily meetings, press events and “frequent golf tournament wins”.
