With the start of the new school year, motorists in Latvia have to be especially careful

On Knowledge Day – 1 September – motorists should be especially careful when driving through populated areas and near schools, as there are many children going to and from schools, warns Latvian Sate Roads (LVC).
LVC reminds there are also active repair work on Vidzeme, Jelgava, Bauska and Ventspils highways in Pierīga.

More intensive road traffic is expected in morning hours. Motorists are advised to plan their trips in advance.

With the start of a new school year motorists have to deal with increased road traffic intensity within residential areas. This is why they should be especially careful and keep in mind they may have to spend more time on the road when compared to summer.

Motorists also have to keep in mind increased pedestrian traffic, including more children and youngsters going to and from school by foot, on bicycles and electric scooters.

Motorists should be especially careful on the first days of the new school year, when road and pedestrian traffic usually changes.
LVC urges motorists to strictly comply with speed restrictions and reduce driving speeds when near education institutions, as well as be careful near zebra crossings and traffic light sections.
