UK travel for Estonians to change as ID cards no longer accepted

With the end of the Brexit transition period in the United Kingdom, the citizens of Estonia will no longer be allowed to enter the country with ID cards. Instead, passports will be necessary, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports.
Kristina Ots from the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said explained on Monday, October 4: «As a result of Brexit, the only valid travel document to enter the UK from 1 October 1 2021 is a passport. This means that it is no longer possible to cross the UK border with an Estonian ID card.»

As to Estonian nationals, potentially, currently in the UK with an Estonian ID card and Ots recommended seeking consular services in Estonian representations in the UK.
From January 1, 2021 and following the end of the Brexit transition period, tourists, business travellers and students are permitted to travel visa-free to the UK. That is if they do not stay for more than six consecutive months, ERR reports.
