Retail trade turnover in Latvia up 4.9%

Compared to April 2021, total retail trade turnover increased by 4.9 % in April 2022. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 3.2%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) increased by 9.5 %, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – reduced by 3.9 %.
As compared to April 2021, the largest turnover rise was registered in retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (of 72.7%), retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (37.4%) and retail sale of cosmetics and toiletries (14.1%). Turnover drop was registered in retail sale via mail order houses or via Internet (of 14.6%), retail sale in stalls or markets (8.1%) and retail sale of electrical household appliances in specialised stores (6.0%), according to calendar adjusted data at constant prices compiled by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.

Total retail trade turnover at current prices increased by 20.4%, without taking into account the calendar influence.

Compared to March, the total turnover of retail trade enterprises in April 2022 fell by 4.0%, according to seasonally adjusted data at constant prices. Turnover of retail trade in food products grew by 1.3%. Retail trade in non-food products (except for retail sale of automotive fuel) reduced by 4.2%, but turnover of retail sale of automotive fuel – by 13.1%.
Compared to the previous month, most significant turnover growth was registered in retail sale in stalls or markets (of 6.9%), retail sale of cosmetics and toiletries (6.0%) and retail sale of information and communication equipment in specialised stores (2.6%). The largest turnover drop was registered in retail sale in non-specialised stores selling mainly non-food products (of 15.8%), retail sale of clothing, footwear and leather goods (14.6%) and retail sale of cultural and recreation goods (11.6%).
Compared to March, the total retail trade turnover at current prices (not taking into account seasonality) decreased by 2.8% in April 2022.
