Mostly dry weather is expected across Latvia on Thursday and Friday. On Thursday evening, a few light showers may develop in parts of the central regions, while on Friday afternoon isolated showers are possible in Kurzeme, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
Light northerly winds will prevail. During the night and early morning hours, fog is expected to form in some areas, locally reducing visibility.
Night-time temperatures will generally fall to +12°C to +18°C, while daytime highs will range between +23°C and +28°C. Coastal areas will remain slightly cooler.
Over the weekend, a cyclone will approach Latvia, bringing lower atmospheric pressure, cloudier skies, stronger winds and rain to many parts of the country.
On Saturday morning, a rain band will begin moving into Latvia from the west, initially bringing rainfall to the western and central regions before spreading across almost the entire country later in the day. More intense cumulonimbus clouds are expected to develop during the weekend, increasing the likelihood of thunderstorms.
On Sunday, wind gusts along the coast are expected to reach 15–16 metres per second.
While temperatures on Saturday are still forecast to reach +21°C to +26°C, a slightly cooler air mass will gradually move into Latvia on Sunday, with daytime temperatures no longer expected to exceed +24°C.
At the beginning of next week, daytime temperatures will drop further to just +15°C to +20°C, while nights will also become cooler, with temperatures in some areas falling to around +12°C.
Rain is expected across most of the country, and gusty winds will continue in coastal and central regions.
