Latvia and Finland awarded hosting rights for the 2030 IIHF World Championship

The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Congress on Friday awarded the hosting rights for the 2030 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship to Latvia and Finland, according to the Finnish Ice Hockey Association.
In December last year, the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation (LHF), together with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, launched the bidding process to host the 2030 IIHF Men’s World Championship in the top division. The two countries were the sole candidates for hosting the tournament.
The championship will take place in Riga and Helsinki from the 17th of May to the 2nd of June, 2030.

Riga and Helsinki will each host one preliminary-round group, while both cities will stage two quarter-final matches.

The semi-finals and medal games will be played in Helsinki.
Latvia has previously hosted the IIHF Men’s World Championship in 2006, 2021, and 2023.
The 2027 World Championship will be held in Germany, followed by France in 2028 and Slovakia in 2029. The 2030 tournament will take place in the same year as the Winter Olympic Games.
