Covid-19 infection rates on a rise again after a two-month drop

Between 21st and 27th of November the number of people infected with Covid-19 increased by 35.1%, as reported by the Disease Prevention and Monitoring Centre.
This is 3 124 cases a week on average or 446 cases a day. This increase of infection cases came after a two-month drop in Covid-19 cases. The number of tests is up by 17.7%. Data comparison with last week indicates the number of hospitalised Covid-19 patients is up by 4.6%. There are also two hospitalised patients suffering from severe case of Covid-19 infection.
There was also an increase of new infection cases among 0-9 year and 30-49 year age groups last week. Infection rates were higher than average in Latvia in regions like Kurzeme, Latgale and Riga. Infection rates are slowly going up across the European Union in general as well

Covid-19 infection rates are below the average EU index at the moment.

On top of that, there have been 13 cases of flu confirmed in lab tests in Latvia since the start of the flu monitoring season. General practitioners, meanwhile, report 52 clinically confirmed flu cases. Flu has appeared regionally in different countries: Albania, Finland, Germany, Moldova, Russia, UK, Ukraine, France and Kazakhstan.
Medical experts invite seniors and people suffering from chronic illnesses to consider vaccinating for flu and Covid-19 as soon as possible. Residents in Latvia can sign up for vaccination at their general practitioner’s, medical institutions, vaccination rooms or at manavakcina.lv. It is possible to vaccinate for flu and Covid-19 simultaneously.
