Polish influencer Piotr Hancke’s nine-day YouTube livestream has raised more than 60 million euros for children, battling with cancer, the BBC reports.
YouTube star Hancke, known to his millions of followers as Latwogang, raised the funds live from his apartment in Warsaw, which will go to a Polish charity that helps cancer patients. The livestream, which ended on the 26th of April, was also supported by a variety of celebrities, including Coldplay frontman Chris Martin and former Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny. Spanish football sensation Lamine Yamal also appeared in the goalkeeper’s video.
Martin joined the live broadcast via video call, while Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski, a Pole, supported the campaign by posting a video on TikTok of himself dancing to Hancke’s campaign song. The song, created by Polish rapper Bedoes 2115, was also played throughout Hancke’s live broadcast. After the broadcast ended, Lewandowski wrote on Instagram that he was proud to be Polish.
Hancke shaved his head in support of cancer patients,
and several celebrities who appeared on his live broadcast also shaved their heads.
The live broadcast on YouTube began on the 17th of April and ended on the evening of the 26th of April. The Polish state news agency PAP reported that at one point as many as 1.4 million users were watching the live broadcast simultaneously. At the time of writing, the official Cancer Fighters website indicated that a little over 60 million euros had been raised.
The charity Cancer Fighters Foundation has set up a separate website to publicise donations, pledging to provide information on how the funds were spent so that everyone who has contributed can see how their contribution translates into real help. Marek Kopysc, the organisation’s president, said they had reached out to celebrities to help innocent children who are fighting the toughest battles every day.
