On Friday, 11 February, Latvia’s beloved chef Mārtiņš Rītiņš passed away in P.Stradins Clinical University Hospital at the age of 73 years after a long battle with Covid-19.
Previously there was information about Mārtiņš Rītiņš having been hospitalised with Covid-19. His health took a sudden dive at the end of 2021.
Mārtiņš Rītiņš was in charge of Vincents restaurant for more than 20 years. He was also the founder of slow food movement in Latvia. In 2007 he became a Knight of the Order of the Three Stars.
Rītiņš was born on Cheshire, England, on 19 October 1949. In 1984-1992 he was living and working in Toronto, Canada. In 1993 he returned to his motherland, where he worked on TV culinary shows in addition to his work at Vicents restaurant. He quickly earned the love of Latvia’s people.
