Following the approval of new ministers, further changes will take place, Prime Minister Evika Siliņa (JV) revealed in an interview on TV3’s program 900 Seconds.
Discussing the government’s “restart,” Siliņa emphasized that the incoming ministers possess many positive qualities and experience that will enable them to effectively carry out their assigned priority tasks. However, they must also be capable of achieving set goals, potentially by adjusting their working style. She stressed that they must implement these priorities within the constraints of limited funding.
Siliņa highlighted that the new priorities have been clearly defined and that changes are necessary. “Changes will happen—these will not be the only ones. There will be more, but we will announce them after the ministers are confirmed,” she said, without specifying what further changes are expected.
When asked about President Edgars Rinkēvičs’ recent remarks urging the government to “pull itself together,” Siliņa responded: “I think the President should comment on his own comments.”
“How else should I pull myself together? Should I dismiss more ministers? The President should explain what he means by that,”
she added, noting, that she would ask him about it during their scheduled meeting on Wednesday.
As previously reported, in an effort to “restart” her government, the Prime Minister dismissed Transport Minister Kaspars Briškens (P), Education Minister Anda Čakša (JV), and Welfare Minister Uldis Augulis (ZZS) on the 21st of February. Their ministerial duties officially ended on the 26th of February.
The Union of Greens and Farmers (ZZS) has nominated Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Welfare Reinis Uzulnieks for the position of Welfare Minister.
New Unity initially proposed Cēsis Mayor Jānis Rozenbergs as Minister of Education and Science, but after a few days, he declined the opportunity. The party then nominated Foreign Ministry Parliamentary Secretary Dace Melbārde (JV) for the position.
Meanwhile, The Progressives have decided to nominate Saeima deputy and Parliamentary Secretary of the Ministry of Defense Atis Švinka for the role of Transport Minister.
