Poland plans to boost ammunition production

According to a draft law published late on Monday, the 4th of November, Poland plans to invest three billion zlotys (750 million US dollars, 687 million euros) to increase ammunition production to ensure sufficient reserves in case of a Russian attack, reports Reuters.
Since Moscow launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Poland has become NATO’s biggest defence spender given the size of the Polish economy, with 4.7% of GDP earmarked for defence in the 2025 budget.
“The aim of the draft law is to create the possibility to provide funding for activities aimed at increasing the capacity of munitions production,” the draft law states, highlighting in particular the need to expand the production of high-calibre munitions to strengthen the capabilities of the Polish Armed Forces.
The government plans to adopt the bill in the fourth quarter, its website said.
In September, Marcin Idzik, a board member of the state-owned Polish Armaments Group (PGZ), said Warsaw planned to increase production of 155 mm artillery shells.
