Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on the 20th of September that he had spoken with US President Donald Trump and that the two had agreed to meet in New York; the meeting could make a significant difference in finding a solution to end the war in Ukraine, reports Reuters.
The leaders of both countries will attend the UN General Assembly in New York this week. Zelensky wrote on X that they had agreed to meet and that this could be a game-changer, as the diplomatic dynamics are currently favorable. Zelensky also thanked Trump for the visit to Kyiv by his envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Zelensky stated that peace talks are currently the top priority. Ideas have emerged regarding de-escalation and addressing key fundamental issues concerning energy, food security, and saving lives. Ukrainians are working alongside the American team and are prepared to take serious steps. Zelensky also thanked Trump for the imposition of new sanctions against Russia.
