Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has said that the intensive drone attacks on Russian territory are a response to the strike on a historic monastery in Kyiv, and that Moscow will also burn if the attacks continue, Reuters reports.
A large number of drones were sent to Moscow on the night of the 18th of June, carrying out strikes on the capital’s oil refinery for the second time this week.
Zelensky said that Ukrainians did not want this war, never have, and everyone knows it: “But if Ukraine burns, your Moscow will burn.”
At least ten people died in Ukraine on the 15th of June after missiles and drones struck the thousand-year-old Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery.
Zelensky is scheduled to meet with Ukraine’s military allies in Brussels on the 18th of June, and he said the talks will focus on the supply of air defense systems through a NATO program and the joint development of a defense system against ballistic missiles.
The Ukrainian president has called on Europe and the United States to increase pressure on Moscow through sanctions on Russia’s defense and energy sectors to force Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end the war. He stressed that it is time for everyone to put pressure on Putin, and the Russians themselves should also come to their senses.
