With Indriksone picked to become Minister of Economics, Dzintars to replace her in the Saeima

On Tuesday, 31 May, Latvia’s Saeima Mandates, Ethics and Submissions Committee supported the decision to approve 13th Saeima deputy’s status for Normunds Dzintars, as BNN was told by the parliament’s press-service.
Changes to the composition of the Saeima were necessary because Ilze Indriksone had to put down her mandate for the duration of her minister’s term.
Normunds Dzintars was elected to the 13th Saeima from Kurzeme list of candidates of the National Alliance. Dzintars graduated from Liepaja University with Latvian language and literature teacher qualification, as well as Master’s degree in Philosophy. He also holds a PhD in linguistics.
Currently Dzintars teaches Latvian language and literature at Liepaja State 1st Gymnasium.
The committee will ask the Saeima to add this topic to the agenda of its 2 June meeting.
As previously reported, Indriksone became Minister of Economics of Latvia after [Latvia’s Prime Minister Krišjānis] Kariņš dismissed Jānis Vitenbergs. This was done because the National Alliance had previously presented the government an ultimatum – either Minister of the Interior Marija Golubeva leaves, or the party leaves the coalition.
