Wind turbine falls down in Estonia

On Estonia’s largest island, a wind turbine has broken in pieces and fallen down. The accident, which could have had tragic consequences, has not resulted in human injuries, Estonian public broadcaster ERR reports.
The white, industrial wind turbine placed on a tall pipelike pole high above the surrounding grassland on the island of Saaremaa snapped on Tuesday, February 15. Other wind turbines in the Salme Wind Farm continue to stand on their poles.

The Salme Wind Fram is owned by Estonian businessmen the Sõnajalgs. «The accident is no big deal,» businessman Andres Sõnajalg assured the Delfi.ee news portal. «We’ll repair it and it will work again.»
The power source belongs to an older generation of wind turbines produced by German manufacturer Enercon. Sõnajalg said that the technology used by their company Eleon’s turbines is new and better protected against such dangerous accidents, ERR reports.
