This week weather in Latvia will be dictated by several cyclones – the sky will be mostly cloudy with moments of precipitation. In the first days of February precipitation intensity will gradually go down and air temperature will go down, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Monday, the 30th of January, it will be overcast with moments of clear sky in western parts of Latvia. Precipitation is expected across the country – snow and wet snow (rain in Kurzeme). Heavy snowfall is expected in eastern parts of the country. The layer of snow there has increased 5 – 7 cm at night. With continued snowing the layer of snow will increase by another 2 – 4 cm.
Certain roads may become slippery, so motorists are urged to be especially careful!
The wind will blow from the south-west, west and will be moderately strong. Wind speed will increase to 15-19 m/sec. In the second half of the night and in morning hours wind speed may reach 20 – 22 m/sec along the coast. Maximum air temperature during the day is expected at 0° C… +5° C.
On Tuesday the sky will be mostly cloudy. Precipitation is expected in many parts of the country at night and during the day. The wind will blow from the south-west and west. Wind speed will be high along the coast at night. Air temperature will stay at -1° C… +4° C at night and during the day.
On Wednesday weather will remain cloudy. At night a precipitation zone will reach Latvia, bringing snow and wet snow. The wind will be slow to moderate and will blow from the south and south-west. The wind will be strong along the coast at night and morning hours.
Air temperature during the day is expected at 0° C… +3° C, whereas at night air temperature in central and eastern regions may drop to 0° C… -4° C.
Precipitation is expected in the second half of the week,
but their intensity will go down. Wet snow and rain is expected in many parts of the country on Thursday. On the weekend it is expected to snow. The wind will calm down and air temperature will gradually go down. At night air temperature will drop to 0° C… -5° C (-10° C in eastern parts of the country).
