Weather in Latvia set for a sharp change: what to expect this weekend

Weather conditions across Latvia will become increasingly unsettled over the coming days as a cyclone moves through the region, bringing rain, thunderstorms, and a temporary drop in temperatures before warmer conditions return.

On Friday, skies will be mostly cloudy, although occasional sunny intervals are expected. Rain will develop in parts of western and central Latvia during the night and become more widespread during the day. Some areas may experience thunderstorms and heavy downpours. Overnight temperatures will range from +12°C to +17°C, while daytime temperatures will reach +20°C to +25°C, remaining slightly cooler along parts of the Gulf coast at +16°C to +19°C.

During the night into Saturday, the centre of a cyclone will cross Latvia, bringing the most unsettled weather of the weekend. Cloud cover will dominate, with showers expected in many areas overnight and during the first half of the day. Local thunderstorms accompanied by intense rainfall are also possible, while fog may form in some locations during the night. Temperatures will remain between +12°C and +17°C overnight, but daytime highs will be noticeably lower, reaching only +15°C to +20°C.

Conditions will improve on Sunday as the cyclone moves away.

Skies will be partly cloudy, and although cloud cover is expected to increase later in the day, significant rainfall is not forecast. Light winds may allow patches of fog to develop during the morning hours. Temperatures will fall to between +10°C and +13°C overnight before rising to a pleasant +19°C to +24°C during the day, although coastal areas will remain somewhat cooler.

Looking ahead to next week, summer-like warmth is expected to return, with daytime temperatures generally around +20°C. However, the influence of another cyclone will increase the likelihood of frequent rainfall and occasional thunderstorms, some of which may bring heavy downpours.

Overall, the weekend will begin with warm but increasingly unstable weather, turn cooler and wetter on Saturday as the cyclone passes through, and then become drier and warmer again on Sunday before another unsettled period develops during the first half of next week.
