Weather forecast for the last week of 2021 in Latvia

Colder masses of air and snow flowed to Latvia last week, bringing white Christmas to almost the entire country. Weather will remain cold this week as well, but it is expected to snow less. Current forecasts suggest warmer masses of air will flow to Latvia around the end of the year. This means air temperature will increase and the snow will start thawing in some areas, according to Latvian State, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Monday and Tuesday atmospheric pressure will increase slightly. This means there will be less less snow. Air temperature will remain low. On Monday, 27 December, it will snow mostly in Latvia’s eastern territories, where the layer of snow will increase 2 – 4 cm. Visibility will worsen during snowing. Drivers will need to be careful, as roads remain slippery. Wind speed will be low and air temperature will be -3° C… -8° C (-2° C… +3° C along the coast). As the sky clears, however, air temperature may drop a couple degrees more.
On Tuesday, 28 December, the sky may clear at times. Eastern areas of Latvia may experience some snow at night. Wind remain slow and will blow from the south and south-east. The wind may be strong along the coast. Air temperature will be -5° C… -10° C during the day and at night (-2° C… -7° C along the coast).
In the middle of the week the sky will be cloudy in Latvia, with moments of snow. The wind will be moderate and will blow from the east and south-east. The wind will be strong along the coast. Air temperature at night and during the day will range from -3° C along the coast to -13° C in Latvia’s eastern territories.
Current forecasts suggest warmer masses of air will gradually flow to Latvia at the end of 2021 – air temperature will rise above 0° C. At the same time, residents can expect precipitation – snow, wet snow and rain.
