VDD commences criminal proceedings against Saeima deputy for contempt of Latvia’s occupation

Latvia’s State Security Service (VDD) reports having concluded investigation of 14th Saeima deputy Glorija Grevcova’s public statements about the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia. VDD has therefore decided to commence criminal proceedings for possible trivialisation of occupation of Latvia by USSR and Nazi Germany.
Criminal proceedings launched on Monday, the 30th of January, in accordance with Section 74.1 of the Criminal Law – public glorification, denial, acquittal or gross trivialisation of committed genocide, crime against humanity, crime against peace or war crime, including genocide, crime against humanity, crime against peace or war crime against the Republic of Latvia and its inhabitants committed by the USSR or Nazi German.
VDD reminds the inspection of Grevcova’s public activities

was commenced over the videos she uploaded on TikTok on the 22nd of January.

VDD will provide additional information about the investigation as it goes on. VDD reminds no one is considered guilty of committing a crime until his or her guilt has been proven in accordance with the law.
Last year Latvian Union of the Politically Repressed turned on Grevcova with severe criticisms, stressing that people like her – who turn against the country – should be expelled from the Saeima. Even her colleagues condemned her statements and turned to the prosecution office and Saeima’s Ethics Committee.
Grevcova maintains people misunderstood her. She even recorded another video explaining this.
The politician is already under investigation for reporting false information. She is accused of lying to the Central Elections Commission. She does not admit her guilt despite evidence.
Last year VDD warned political party For Stability! after some of its members participated in pro-Kremlin propaganda.
