US cinema accident results in death cinematographer

In the US, a tragic death has taken place on a movie set. Hollywood actor Alec Baldwin is reported to have fired from a gun resulting in lethal injury of the director of cinematography and the injury of a film director, according to British news portal The Guardian.
According to a statement by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s office in the US state of New Mexico, the incident has taken place on Thursday, October 21, in the Bonanza Creek Ranch filming venue.
«The sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot on the set of Rust. Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography, and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor,» police representatives announced.

Hutchins was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead by medical personnel. Film director Souza, in turn, was transported by ambulance to a medical centre where he is undergoing treatment for his injuries. The Guardian reports that the sheriff’s office added: «This investigation remains open and active. No charges have been filed in regard to this incident.»
