Upcoming storm in Latvia may fell trees; drivers warned to be careful

On Friday, 22 October, Latvia will experience strong wind and rainfall. Eastern territories are expected to be hit the hardest. Drivers are advised to be especially careful, because strong wind may fell trees and break branches, which may obstruct roads and put lives at risk, as reported by Latvian State Roads.
Colder massive of air will flow to Latvia on Saturday. There is also a possibility of wet snow at night. Roads may ice over as well. LVC invites drivers to be careful and pick appropriate driving speed.
LVC Transport Information Centre urges residents to report any fallen trees and branches, as well as other obstacles using the free hotline 8000555 or Waze mobile app.
At the same time, maintenance continues on 27 national roads. This means there are road traffic restrictions in place. Information regarding ongoing maintenance and repair can be found at LVC website.
The biggest road traffic restrictions on national roads include the following:
Jēkabpils–Rēzekne–Ludza–Russian border (Terehova) (A12) section from Greiškāni to Riga Street. The speed limit is set at 50 km/h and 70 km/h. Passing through this section may take up to 15 minutes;
Russian border (Grebņeva)–Rēzekne–Daugavpils–Lithuanian border (Medumi) (A13). Due to road repairs from Rēzekne to Bekši the speed limit is set at 30, 50 and 70 km/h. Passing through may take up to 35 minutes.
Daugavpils highway (A6) railroad bypass not far from Lūbaste (224.78 km). Road repairs. Road traffic is organized one-lane only using traffic lights, road signs and guide posts. Speed limit is set at 70 and 50 km/h.
The biggest road traffic restrictions on regional roads:
Inciems–Sigulda–Ķegums (P8) section from Turaida to Sigulda. Freight trucks are not allowed to enter the road due to maintenance. Drivers can expect spending up to 45 minutes on the road.
Jaunkalsnava–Lubāna (P82) section from Ļaudona to Alžāni. A speed limit of 50 and 70 km/h is imposed. Road traffic is organized with traffic lights on five sections. Drivers can expect to spend up to 40 minutes on the road;
Krāslava–Dagda (P61) section from Vorzova to Veterovka is divided into six traffic light sections with a speed limit of 50 km/h. Drivers can expect to spend up to 35 minutes on the road;
Tukums–Kuldīga (P121) section from Līdums to Grenči. A speed limit of 50 km/h is imposed. Drivers can expect to spend up to 30 minutes in the road;
Kocēni–Limbaži–Tūja (P11) from the intersection connecting with Valmiera highway (A3) to Dauguļi. A speed limit of 50 and 70 km/h is imposed. Drivers can expect to spend 15 minutes on the road.
