After the retreat of Russian forces from Lyman, Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Sunday, 2 October, that the strategically important city is once again under control of the Ukrainian military.
«As of 12:30 Lyman is completely liberated. Thanks to our army!» the Ukrainian president said in a ten-seconds long video.

Lyman is located in the Donetsk region.

Previously Ukrainian authorities reported having surrounded 5 000 Russian troops. Currently it is unknown how many Russian troops are killed or taken prisoner.
Lyman’s recovery opens the way for the Ukrainian army to move towards Kreminna and Svatove in Luhansk region. Both are considered important transport hubs, especially Svatove.
