Ukraine is set to reshuffle its Cabinet, with Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko expected to assume a new position, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced in a post on Telegram on Sunday.
While Zelenskyy did not specify the exact nature of the changes, his statement indicates that Svyrydenko will step down as prime minister and take responsibility for coordinating Ukraine’s relations with one of its key international partners.
The Ukrainian president did not reveal who could succeed Svyrydenko as prime minister.
Zelenskyy said the changes are part of a broader effort to adjust Ukraine’s political strategy and introduce personnel changes across the government.
According to the president, each of Ukraine’s priority foreign policy areas will be overseen by a dedicated official with significant experience. He identified relations with the United States, the European Union, neighbouring countries—particularly Poland and Hungary—as well as the Middle East, the Gulf states, and China among the government’s key diplomatic priorities.
Zelenskyy also announced that changes are expected in the leadership of Ukraine’s law enforcement agencies.
“I thank Yuliia for her precise, stable and effective work as Prime Minister and for her many years of dedicated service as part of Ukraine’s team. I have offered her the opportunity to lead a new and important area of cooperation with one of our key international partners,” Zelenskyy wrote.
Svyrydenko, who became prime minister in July last year after previously serving as First Deputy Prime Minister, also commented on the planned changes following her meeting with the president.
In a post on Telegram, she stressed that “today it is critically important to unite all efforts and resources to strengthen Ukraine.”
“I am grateful to the President for his trust and for the high assessment he has given to our team’s work. I am proud to have had the honour of leading the government during the most difficult period in Ukraine’s modern history,” Svyrydenko wrote.
“I remain ready to continue serving the Ukrainian state and to carry out tasks aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s position, defending its national interests, and bringing a just peace closer,” she added.
