Two Russian fighter jets destroyed on the ground in Ukrainian missile strike

Two Russian Su-34 fighter-bomber aircraft were destroyed on the ground in a Ukrainian missile strike deep inside Russia, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on Thursday evening.

“Thank you, guys, for the result,” Zelenskyy said in his daily address.

He added that a Russian Iskander missile launcher had been damaged in a separate strike.

The Ukrainian Navy reported that the attack was carried out using Neptune missiles against the Marinovka military airfield in Russia’s Volgograd region, more than 450 kilometres from Ukrainian-controlled territory.

This marks Ukraine’s second successful missile strike against a military airfield in Russia this month.

The Russian military has not commented on the reported attacks, but military bloggers close to Russia’s armed forces indirectly confirmed the loss of the aircraft.

Su-34 fighter-bombers are used by Russian forces to launch glide bombs against Ukrainian cities.
