On Thursday, the 31st of October, moderate western and north-western wind will reach a speed of 15-17 m/sec along the coast in the Gulf of Vidzeme and Kurzeme. Wind speed may reach 20 m/sec in the evening, according to Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
The wind will remain strong on the weekend: on Friday and Saturday wind speed will reach 18-23 m/sec (26-28 m/sec along the coast). A Yellow Level Warning is in place due to strong wing. In parts of the country, however, there will be Orange Level Warning. The wind will calm down on the night to Sunday. Wind speed will remain strong only along the coast. The wind will become strong again during the day and at the beginning of next week.
Active cyclones will bring precipitation to Latvia’s territory. Between Thursday and Saturday precipitation will be observed in most of the country. On Sunday and Monday precipitation will be observed only in some regions. The first snow will arrive this weekend. However, the layer of snow will not last for very long.
On Thursday night, air temperature will cool to 0° C… 5° C. It will be a little warmer along the coast – the air temperature will drop only to 6° C… 10° C degrees. Daytime air temperature will rise to 7° C… 12° C. It will be a little warmer on Friday – the minimal air temperature at night will be at 7° C… 12° C. Only in some places in the east the air will cool to 5° C… 7° C degrees, whereas daytime the air temperature will reach 10° C… 13° C.
Colder masses of air will flow to the country on the weekend. I will gradually become colder. In parts of the country air temperature will drop below 0° C. In the second half of next week, air temperature will come close to -5° C. Motorists are urged to be careful, as roads may become slippery.
