At the end of February weather will be dry but cold. Air temperature will stay below 0° C. March started off with similar weather, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
This weekend meteorologists predict snowing in most of the country. Snowing will be lasting in eastern territories. The layer of snow will increase by 5-9 cm. Strong wind is expected as well. Next week will be rich with precipitation. With colder masses of air flowing to the country, air temperature will drop as far as -10° C… -15° C.
Friday is expected to be cloudy. The sky will become clear every now and then, letting the sun to shine. Some snowing is expected in south-eastern districts. Motorists are advised to be careful,
as certain roads may be slippery!
The wind will blow from the west and north-west. Daytime air temperature will reach +1° C… +6° C.
On the night to Saturday another cyclone will approach Latvia. The centre of this cyclone will pass through the north-east of the country during the day. As atmospheric pressure goes down, clouds will form, bringing snowfall, as well as rain and wet snow to western parts of the country. The layer of snow will increase in many parts of the country. Snowing will be lasting in eastern parts of the country, where the layer of snow will increase by 5 – 9 cm.
Intensive snowing and strong wind will cause roads to become slippery in certain areas. Visibility will be low during blizzards and moments of intense snowing. At night and during the day air temperature is expected at +1° C… -2° C.
With the sky remaining cloudy. Snowing will continue on Sunday as well, but the intensity of precipitation will go down – both at night and during the day the layer of snow will increase by 1 – 4 cm. The wind will be slow and will blow from the north-west and west (15-19 m/sec along the coast). Precipitation will start gradually calming down from the middle of the night. Daytime air temperature is expected at +1° C… -3° C.
Next week, as colder masses of air flow to the country, weather will remain winter-like. Snowing is expected every now and then. Air temperature both during the day and at night will be below 0° C. On the night to Tuesday air temperature may drop to -15° C in eastern parts of the country. In the middle of the week a new cyclone will approach Latvia, bringing strong wind and intense precipitation on Wednesday and Thursday.
