On Friday, brief showers are expected only in some central and eastern regions, while northwesterly winds will remain the dominant wind direction across Latvia, with gusts reaching up to 15 m/s near the coast in the afternoon. Nighttime temperatures into Friday will not drop below -1 to +5°C, while daytime temperatures in many areas will reach +7 to +12°C, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
On Saturday, atmospheric pressure will fall rapidly, and during the second half of the day, northwesterly winds will begin to strengthen, reaching up to 20 m/s in western and central regions by Sunday night. Throughout Sunday, winds will continue to intensify, and there is a high probability that a yellow-level warning for strong winds will be issued across most of the country. In coastal areas, where wind speeds may reach 25 m/s, an orange-level warning is also possible.
Over the weekend, a precipitation zone will move across the country, initially bringing rain.
During the night into Sunday and throughout the day, as temperatures drop, rain will turn into sleet and snow in many areas, leading to the formation of a thin snow cover of a few centimeters (more pronounced in eastern parts of the country).
Although the snow cover will not be long-lasting, it will complicate road conditions.
Drivers who have already switched their car tires should be especially cautious.
The Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre indicates that in the final days of April, weather conditions will continue to be influenced by an active cyclone. Therefore, winds will remain relatively strong (with gusts of 15–19 m/s in many areas), and clouds will occasionally bring rain or sleet, although not as intense as over the weekend. Winds are expected to subside by the middle of next week.
