Self-service kiosk opens in Latvian Saeima – what prices can the parliamentarians expect?

A self-service food kiosk opened up in the Saeima on the 7th of November. This kiosk will be offering members of the Saeima and visitors sandwiches, snacks and other products going forward.

According to LETA, the self-service kiosk offers all kinds of sandwiches, as well as packaged solyanka, plov and other meals. The kiosk also sells various kinds of chocolates and refreshments.

Sandwiches are sold for about three euros, 300 grams of plov will cost almost four euros, solyanka will cost 3.49 euros, and beans with Chili – 4.30 euros.

Another kiosk is planned to be opened in December.

LETA previously reported that the auction to provide catering services in the Saeima failed for the third time. Instead of renting out space for a cafeteria, the Saeima decided to open up a self-service kiosk.

In turn, four contenders applied for the tender for the installation of a food trade self-service kiosk. Contracts for the lease of a part of the room for the installation of a food trade self-service kiosk have been concluded with two contenders – “Sanitex” LLC and “12eat Latvia” LLC – for 24 months with the right to extend the contract for another 24 months.

The share capital of “12eat Latvia” LLC is EUR 50 000. Last year it worked with a turnover of EUR 1.54 million, but the profit was EUR 10 900. The owner of the company is a Lithuanian Mants Aģents. The share capital of “Sanitex” LLC is EUR 1 790 299. Last year, it worked with a turnover of EUR 493.1 million, but the profit was EUR 11.39 million. The owner of the company is Pjotrs Mihņevičs.

LETA previously reported that the question of whether or not and what kind of catering services will be available in the Saeima building in the future has been in discussion for a long time.

The cafeteria of the Saeima was closed for an indefinite period of time because the previous tenant did not extend the lease agreement and no new service provider had applied to replace the last one.

In order to reach out to the industry to get involved and participate, information on the possibilities of renting premises has been disseminated to as wide a range of potential interested parties as possible, including the Latvian Caterers’ Association, which unites the entrepreneurs of this industry.

Criticism of the current situation has been expressed by Saeima deputy Ainārs Šlesers (LPV), who pointed out that “it appears that catering companies have agreed to boycott the offer from the Saeima”. Šlesers suggests that catering companies do not want to provide the service because there is no reduction in value added tax.
