Russia on Sunday, the 21st of April, criticised the decision of US lawmakers to approve additional aid to Ukraine, saying that US military support for Ukraine is dragging Washington into a “humiliating fiasco” and drawing the US deeper into the conflict, a day after a 60.8 billion US dollar aid package for Kyiv cleared a key hurdle in the US Congress, reports Politico.
The US funding still needs to be approved by the Senate and signed by President Joe Biden. Once finalised, the US will be able to provide additional aid to help Ukraine defend itself against the Russian artillery superiority as the bombardment continues.
“Washington’s deeper and deeper immersion into a hybrid war against Russia will become as loud and humiliating fiasco for the United States
as Vietnam and Afghanistan,” Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova was quoted as saying.
Zakharova stated the US wants Ukraine to “fight to the last Ukrainian”, including through attacks on Russian territory and civilians. She emphasized that Russia will respond decisively to U.S. efforts to escalate involvement in the conflict.
Dmitry Polyanskiy, First Deputy to Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN, wrote on X that the US aid package would mean that Kyiv “will function a little longer, more money will be pocketed, more weapons will be stolen, and tens of thousands of Ukrainians will end up in the “meat grinder””.
The total aid package of 95 billion US dollars approved by US lawmakers in several bills also includes smaller amounts for Israel and Taiwan.
Russia’s Zakharova said on Telegram that “military aid to the Kyiv regime is direct financial support of terrorist activities”.
