Riga’s Hydroelectric Power Plant gradually restores water levels in water reservoir

The water level in the water reservoir of Riga’s Hydroelectric Power Plant (HES) is gradually being restored to allow everyday operations, as reported by representatives of Latvenergo JSC.
The company reports that Riga’s HES has started restoring the water level in its reservoir because repairs and restoration of hydro-technical structures in the variable water level area.
The water reservoir filling rate will depend on water levels in the river and demand on the electricity market.
At the same time, Latvenergo representatives explain that the lowest value necessary to ensure normal everyday operations – 17.15 m LAS-2000.5 – will be reached on Saturday, 1 October.

The technical director of Latvenergo HES Andris Zēģele explains that during the period of low water levels in August and September the company was able to perform repairs and restoration at two hydro electric power plants – Ķegums HES and Riga HES.

At Ķegums HES it was possible to complete restoration of the reinforced concrete structures and outflow channel supports. This and other related repair and maintenance work require lowering water levels. All work is planned to be completed by the end of the end.
«No reduction of water levels is planned at Riga HES water reservoir next year. One exception will be one week in July, when water levels are planned to be reduced at the hydro power plant in order to accommodate maintenance work,» added Zēģele.
