In the first seven months of 2022 Riga International Airport serviced at total of 2.8 million passengers, which is 302% more when compared to the same period of 2021, according to the airport.
In July 2022 the airport serviced more than 600 000 passengers. The number of passengers has doubled when compared to July 2021. Riga airport has recovered 72% of the pre-crisis passenger numbers and 64% of numbers observed in 2019.
A gradual but slow growth is observed for transit passengers, which had previously dropped following the start of the Russian-Ukrainian war.
With airlines putting together new transit route offers, more than one-fifth of travellers were using Riga as a transfer point for further destinations in July.
54% or 331 600 passengers were carried by airBaltic in July 2022. This accounts for 56% or 2 880 flights.
28% or 168 400 passengers used Irish Ryanair airline, which performed 19% or 974 flights.
In total Riga International Airport serviced more than 5 000 flights in July alone and 30 600 flights in the first seven months of 2022.
As reported by the airport, the Russian-Ukrainian war and international flight bans continue affecting aviation freight sector. As a result, the airport serviced a total of 1 500 tonnes of freight in July and 12 500 tonnes of freight in the first seven months. This is 19% less when compared to the same period of 2019 and 12% less when compared to the first seven months of 2021.
