September has so far been rainy across much of Latvia, with the monthly precipitation norm already exceeded at most observation stations. The highest rainfall total so far has been recorded at the Priekuļi observation station – 156.3 mm.
Active cyclone activity will continue to influence the weather for the rest of the week, bringing plenty of precipitation, possible thunderstorms in some areas and gusty winds, according to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
At the beginning of next week, the growing influence of an anticyclone will bring drier and sunnier weather.
On Wednesday, the 23rd of September, skies will be mostly cloudy. Rain is expected overnight in eastern and central regions, with thunderstorms also possible in some areas. During the day, periods of rain are expected across most of the country.
Fog will form in some eastern areas in the morning. Light to moderate northerly and north-easterly winds will prevail overnight and along the coast during the day, with coastal gusts reaching 15–17 m/s. Elsewhere in Latvia, winds will ease during the day and remain light.
Overnight temperatures will fall to +8°C to +13°C, while daytime highs will reach +11°C to +15°C.
The end of the working week will be cloudy and rainy as a new cyclone centre approaches Latvia from the east.
Rain is expected in many areas on Thursday, with thunderstorms possible locally in eastern regions during the day. On Friday, rain will continue across most of the country, becoming prolonged in many areas and heavy in central regions during the day.
On Thursday evening, winds along the Gulf of Riga coast will strengthen, while on Friday gusty conditions will also affect other coastal areas. North-westerly and westerly winds, as well as southerly and south-easterly winds in eastern Latvia, will reach gusts of up to 14 m/s.
Fog will form overnight and during the morning hours, reducing visibility. Overnight temperatures will fall to +8°C to +14°C, while daytime temperatures will reach +10°C to +15°C.
Rainy weather will continue over the weekend. At the beginning of next week, however, the strengthening influence of an anticyclone will bring drier conditions.
Although temperatures over the weekend will remain similar to those of the preceding days, sunnier conditions next week will bring warmer daytime temperatures.
