On Thursday, 2 July, the birthday of the late Latvian basketball player Jānis Timma, his former wife, singer Anna Sedokova, shared a personal statement on social media. For the first time, she spoke publicly about her marriage to Timma and explained why she decided to end their relationship, according to StarHit.
“I left him because he had problems with aggression. One Valentine’s Day he beat me so badly that half of my face was bruised the next morning. I woke up and realised my children would soon see it. I knew I had to hide everything immediately. The most important thing was that my children wouldn’t notice. Then he apologised a thousand times. But every time he walked into the room, we were all afraid. Forgive me for leaving a man who beat me,” the singer wrote in response to questions from her followers about Timma.
Sedokova also claimed that Timma once attacked her with a knife. She posted a photograph showing the basketball player asleep while holding a knife. According to her, she managed to escape the house with her children.
“These are holes made by a knife,” the singer said, pointing to damage in a wall. “Has anyone ever thrown a knife at you? Please. I’m begging you. I’m trying so hard to move on with my life. I’m trying so hard. It’s really, really difficult for me, but I’m alive. Just give me a chance to move on with my life.”
As evidence, Sedokova also published what she said were messages exchanged with Timma. In the messages, the basketball player expressed regret over the incident and reflected on the violence he had witnessed in his own family.
“Yes, I admit that at one point I was extremely cruel. I had an emotional breakdown,” Timma allegedly wrote. “We had a fight at home. We exchanged insults and everything else we could throw at each other. I pulled Anya into a cold shower to calm her down. Honestly, hand on my heart, that was the only thing I wanted at that moment—for her to calm down so we could talk normally. Then, as I was leaving, I slammed the door hard, and she fell. After that, my life started falling apart because I realised how aggressive and out of control I had been,” the messages published by Sedokova state.
