In 11 months of 2023 there were 13 045 newborns registered in Latvia, which is 12.2% or 1 818 newborns fewer when compared to the same period of 2022, according to data published by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
In 11 months of 2023, among the newborns there were 6 665 boys (12.3% or 934 fewer when compared to last year), and 6 378 were girls (12.1% or 882 fewer when compared to last year).
In November 2023 there were 1 064 newborns registered in Latvia, which is 1.3% or 14 newborns fewer when compared to the same month of 2022. 555 boys and 508 girls were registered. November’s number of newborns registered in Latvia was the second smallest last year: the only other month that saw fewer newborns than that was February, when a total of 1 021 of newborns were registered.
In 11 months of 2023 there were 25 040 deaths registered in Latvia, which is 9.7% or 2 701 less when compared to the same period of 2022, when 27 741 deaths were registered.
This means the number of deaths registered in 11 months exceeded the number of births by 11 997.
In 11 months of 2023 there were 10 176 marriages registered in Latvia, which is 9% or 1 001 marriages fewer when compared to the same period of 2022.
As of the 1st of December 2023 Latvia’s population was at 1.874 million.
As previously reported, in 2022 Latvia had the lowest birth rates in the last 100 years. In 2022 a total of 15 954 newborns were registered in Latvia, which is 8.4% or 1 466 newborns fewer when compared to 2021.
