In January 2024 there were 1 050 newborns registered in Latvia, which is 7.9% or 90 newborns fewer when compared to the same month of 2023, according to data published by the Central Statistical Bureau of Latvia.
539 of newborns were boys, which is 7.1% or 41 boys fewer when compared to the same period of 2023. 511 newborns were girls, which is a drop of 8.8% or 49 fewer.
At the same time there were 2 693 deaths registered in Latvia, which is 10.3% or 308 fewer when compared to last year’s January.
The number of deaths exceeded births by 1 643. Last year there were 1 861 more deaths than births in Latvia.
There were 300 marriages registered in Latvia in January 2024. Compared to the same month of 2023, this is 25% or 100 marriages less.
On the 1st of February 2024 Latvia’s estimated population was 1.866 million.
