Mexico hit by tragic car crash with many victims

In Mexico, not less than 54 people have died in a road accident, where a cargo truck with over 150 people on board has turned over, British broadcaster BBC reports.
The tragic accident has taken place on Thursday, December 9, in Mexico’s south-eastern state of Chiapas, which borders Guatemala. This is one of the worst accidents of its kind in Mexico. Forty-nine people were confirmed dead at the scene and five more died in hospital, Chiapas state Governor Rutilio Escandón announced and added that another around 105 people – 83 men and 22 women – suffered injuries in the crash.

Local officials of emergency services stated that the victims included men, women and children. Their nationalities have not been confirmed, but local officials said most of the people on board were from Honduras and Guatemala.
BBC reports that accident has taken place as the truck was speeding when it flipped on a sharp bend and hit a pedestrian bridge on a main road leading to the Chiapas state capital Tuxtla Gutiérrez. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador reacted to the crash as «very painful» and stated on Twitter that he «deeply regrets the tragedy».
