Meteorologists promise a lot of rain this week; weather to become especially chilly later on

Although the start of the week in Latvia will remain warm and rainy in Latvia, air temperature may drop as far as -22° C on the weekend, as reported by Latvian State Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
The year 2023 will start off with record warm weather in Latvia. Multiple meteorological stations recorded new air temperature records.

A new air temperature record was registered in Daugavpils, where it reached +11.1° C.

On Monday, the 2nd of January, weather will be mostly cloudy and rainy. With slow to medium-speed wind it is possible fog may form in areas. Minimal night-time air temperature is expected between +2° C… -3° C (+5° C in south-west areas), whereas maximum daytime air temperature will reach 0° C… +7° C.
On Tuesday weather will remain cloudy. With the centre of a small cyclone passing through the country’s north-east regions, precipitation is expected, mostly rain and wet snow. Rain may be lasting in some areas. At night the wind will blow from the south. The cyclone will cause the wind to blow from the west and north-west. In some areas the wind speed may reach 15-19 m/sec. Minimal air temperature at night and maximum air temperature during the day will stay between 0 C and +6° C.
On Wednesday the sky will clear up every now and then, letting the sun shine. On Thursday, however, weather will become cloudy again. Some precipitation is expected in the form of rain and wet snow. On Thursday the layer of snow will increase by 5-7 cm in some areas in Latvia. On Wednesday, air temperature will stay at -2° C… +2° C, whereas on Thursday it will reach -5° C… +1° C.
On Friday, the 6th of January, atmospheric pressure will increase above Latvia. This means the sky will clear up and no precipitation will come. The wind will remain slow to medium and will blow from the north. With colder masses of air air temperature in western parts of Latvia will drop to -5° C… -10° C, whereas in the east air temperature will be -10° C… -15° C.
According to current forecasts, with increasing atmospheric pressure, air temperature at night may drop as far as -22° C in some areas at night.
