LSA: it’s important to make sanctions more effective

Latvian Stevedoring Company Association (LSA) invites reassessing the list of goods Russia is supplied with through European countries, Latvia included.
LSA points to the information reported in the press about the supplies of manganese ore to Russia through Latvia. This ore can be potentially used to manufacture military equipment.
“We support Ukraine and condemn Russia’s aggression. LSA member, port-based companies, comply with sanctions imposed by the European Union and US OFAC to limit the economy of the Russian Federation in specific ways with an impact on global economy and national economies,” the statement mentions.
To prevent the possibility of the aggressor country’s military industry being supported, LSA invites institutions responsible for sanctions to work with Baltic States and the EU to carefully assess and limit the range of goods that are currently supplied to Russia through Latvia and other EU member states.
If the list of sanctioned goods is expanded, LSA members will strictly comply with the restrictions. LSA members are ready to cooperate and share information at their disposal with the competent authorities of Latvia and the EU in order to regularly evaluate the effectiveness, challenges and necessary changes of sanctions.
LSA stresses that because of the critical situation in the transport sector and the limiting financial influence on companies active in the sector, it is important for competent institutions to cooperate. “This will not only make sanctions more effective, but also support Latvia’s national economy and global competitiveness.”
