Latvia’s ruling coalition agrees on additional energy support for households and businesses

On Monday, 26 September, the ruling coalition in Latvia made the decision to approve the allocation of an additional amount of EUR 425 million towards support of households and businesses, as confirmed by Saeima deputy Arvils Ašeradens and Minister of Economics Ilze Indriksone after the meeting.
Indriksone said the agreement provides for the allocation of support for residents and legal persons, businesses and associations included.
The minister explained that EUR 165 million is the amount intended for households and EUR 260 million is the amount intended for businesses and other legal persons.
As for setting a price cap and support for heating supplies, in centralised heating the portion that exceeds 150 EUR/MWh will be compensated by the state in the amount of 90%, explained Ašeradens.

As for households that use gas for heating, the state will compensate the amount above 107.34 EUR/MWh.

An agreement was reached that households will be provided with the first 100 kWh for a fixed tariff that will not exceed EUR 180 MWh. The state will compensate the remaining difference.
The state will compensate 50% of the amount exceeding 160 EUR/MWh to all companies.
