Latvian Saeima to view 26 topics; including support for residents who host Ukrainian refugees

On Thursday, 12 May, Latvia’s Saeima will decide in the final reading on provision of support to persons that voluntarily host Ukrainian refugees. This is provided by amendments for the Law on Support for Ukrainian Civilians.
In the final reading the parliament will also view amendments to the Law on Personal Income Tax. The planned changes provide for lifting PIT from employers’ paid benefits to employees if a child is born in their family. It is also planned to ensure that it is possible to apply the farm workers income tax regime for people employed to collect stones from areas under sowings, plantations and grassland.
Deputies will also discuss in the final reading the legislative draft that is intended to improve construction processes along the border, as BNN was informed by Saeima’s press-service.

In the second reading it is planned to view the Civil Union Law. It’s objective is to provide personal and ownership rights protection to persons who live in a civil union.

The Saeima will also decide in the second reading about amendments to the Law on Commerce. These amendments provide for reforming joint stock companies.
Members of the parliament will also decide on amendments that clarify issues regarding college regulations within the institutional framework of education in Latvia.
The parliament will also decide on multiple new legislative drafts and their submission to committees. Among them there are law amendments intended to expand Latvia’s list of controlled narcotic and psychotropic substances.
The Saeima Praesidium has received multiple amendments, including Foreign Affairs Committee’s legislative draft that is intended to halt the mutual agreement signed by Latvia and Russia on the preservation of memorials and monuments. The Saeima was also asked to view the legislative draft that seeks to halt the agreement between Latvia and Russia on double taxation and tax avoidance prevention in regards to income and capital taxes.
The Saeima has a total of 26 topics to discuss at the 12 May meeting.
