«In a short period of time Latvia’s society made it clear – there is no place for aggression and provocations in Latvia! Nearly EUR 90 000 have been donated in favour of demolition of the ‘Occupation Monument’,» BNN was told by Ziedot.lv platform.
«The events of recent days observed in Riga, Victory Square, have clearly demonstrated that Latvia’s society will not allow aggression, provocations and incitement to hate. Latvia’s nation cares about having a free and democratic country. This is why the «Occupation Monument» has no place in Latvia. It is a symbol of occupation that gathers supporters of war and violence. Their slogans and symbols promoting occupation stain our nation’s history, pride and values!» notes the charity organisation.
Nearly 6 000 Latvian residents have made their point by donating money in favour of demolition of the «Occupation Monument».
«Demolition of the monument is an opportunity to unite society. This is also an opportunity for Russian-speaking portion of Latvia’s society to stand shoulder to shoulder and admit they support independent Latvia and conclude that ‘liberators’ had liberated Latvia from independence and had occupied the country. It is an opportunity for Latvia’s society to oppose Russia’s invasion of a free and independent Ukraine,» the charity organisation notes.
BNN previously reported that a money donation campaign has commenced on Ziedot.lv charity platform in favour of demolition of the monument in Victory Park.

The portal stresses that for decades Latvia’s nation was being suppressed. In a time when some perform attacks on people’s right to self-determination, values play the biggest role. What ancestors experienced in the tough occupation period and our parents’ secured independence is not forgotten, it is honoured and respected, the description details.

Residents are invited to donate money to demolish the «Occupation Monument». Organisers promise that all money will be used to remove the rubble.
