Latvian PM against letting Russian and Belarusian athletes attend Olympic Games

As long as the war continues in Ukraine, participation of Russian and Belarusian athletes in Olympic Games under any flag is unacceptable, said Latvian PM Krišjānis Kariņš during his meeting with President of the International Paralympic Committee Andrew Parsons on Tuesday, the 7th of February.
At the same time,

Kariņš welcomed the decision by the Paralympic Committee to halt participation of Russian and Belarusian Paralympic athletes in various sports tournaments.

Latvia’s PM and the president of the Paralympic Committee also discussed the Paralympic movement in Latvia. The discussion was also attended by the President of Latvian Paralympic Committee Daiga Dadzīte and secretary general Liene Apine.
This week Parsons arrived in Latvia, where he will meet with officials and representatives of the Paralympic movement. Parsons was elected president of the International Paralympic Committee in 2017. Four years later he was re-elected. Before then for eight years he was in charge of Brazil’s Paralympic Committee. Between 2005 and 2009 he was the head of the US Paralympic Committee.
