The mission of Latvian Minister of Culture Agnese Lāce’s to the US from Friday to next Wednesday, the 5th of March is approved, as LETA was told by the minister’s advisor Rita Plūme.
As previously reported, the Oscars Award Ceremony will be held on Sunday in Los Angeles, US, which, together with the award-nominated team of the film “Flow”, will also be attended by Lāce and the head of the National Film Centre Dita Rietuma.
During her mission, Lāce will meet with Netflix and other film industry representatives, said the minister’s advisor.
In the ministry’s statement, the Minister of Culture indicated that in addition to this, she intends to meet with representatives of the California Institute of Arts and the Latvian diaspora.
Lāce emphasised that she decided to go on a mission at the invitation of the creators of the full-length animated film “Flow” to also strengthen cultural diplomacy internationally and to confirm that Latvia is ready to participate in the development of international film projects.
She also pointed out that such visits also put great emphasis on strengthening the bilateral relations between the United States and Latvia and how, together with the Latvian Embassy in the United States, Latvia’s name could be carried even more widely in the world.
“Now is the moment when we should all be proud of the international success of “Flow” together, but also at the political level to do everything to further support the film industry,” the minister previously said.
The minister also pointed out that she had planned a mission to the US even before the government’s “restart”. In her absence, the duties of the Minister of Culture will be performed by one of the other members of the Latvian government.
