From the 1st of April onward the average wage of medical workers in Latvia will be EUR 120 higher before taxes, as reported by Latvian Trade Union of Health and Social Care Employees (LVSADA).
The trade union has reached an agreement with the Ministry of Health in regards to the increase of average wages for workers of the health sector. The increase is affirmed as part of the National Trilateral Cooperation Council format.
According to LVSADA, the initial offer from the ministry was a 3.7% increase for doctors, 6.2% for nurses, assistants and senior nurses, and 9.8% for junior staff and ambulance drivers. LVSADA declined it as inappropriate to the actual situation.
As the discussion went on, a compromise agreement was reached,
which provides for increasing average wages of medical personnel by EUR 120 starting with the 1st of April 2023. This means average wages of doctors will increase by 6.1%, wages of nurses, midwives and assistants will increase by 10.1%, and wages of junior staff will increase by 16.1%. As for industry workers who are not medical staff – support personnel – average wages will be increased by EUR 22.76. The agreement provides for restarting talks about the increase of average wages for doctors and support personnel.
LETA previously reported that an agreement was reached at a meeting of the NTSP Healthcare Sub-Council on the principle that will dictate the growth of average wages for medical personnel.
