Latvian Constitution Protection Bureau’s director Jānis Maizītis has passed away

The director of Latvia’s Constitution Protection Bureau Jānis Maizītis has passed away at the age of sixty years, as reported by Latvia’s President Egils Levits on Twitter.
«The early morning of Lāčplēsis Day arrived with sad news – the director of the Constitution Protection Bureau and former prosecutor general of the Republic of Latvia passed away this night,» Levits wrote.
He added: «Thank you for your service to the country. Rest in peace. My deepest condolences to the family.»
Jānis Maizītis was born 18 July 1961. He became the director of the Constitution Protection Bureau in 2013. Before then he served as Prosecutor General between 2000 and 2010. He also worked at the University of Latvia as a guest lecturer.
In the past he also worked as a prosecutor and investigator at Cesis District Office of the Prosecutor.
Maizītis was also awarded the Order of the Three Stars.
