The Latvian Ministry of Defence has signed a framework agreement with the Swedish company Saab for the delivery of portable short-range air defence systems RBS 70 NG and has placed an order worth 2.1 billion Swedish kronor (approximately 190 million euros), Saab announced on Monday.
Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2026 and 2030, according to the company.
The order includes RBS 70 NG launchers and missiles, as well as training equipment.
“Saab continues to support the Latvian National Armed Forces with powerful ground-based air defence weapons that will significantly enhance their essential capabilities to detect and respond to aerial threats,” said Jörgen Johansson, head of Saab’s Dynamics business area.
The RBS 70 NG is equipped with an automatic target tracking system and integrated night vision capabilities, allowing the operator to destroy aircraft, drones, missiles, and other targets at distances of up to nine kilometres.
