Latvia will not extend the duration of the current school year in 2022, according to amendments to the law on the management of the spread of Covid-19 passed by the government on Tuesday, February 22.
In the description of the draft law, it was noted that the autumn holidays in 2021/2022. the school year were extended by one week, thus the duration of the school year for grades 1 to 12 was reduced by one week.
Taking into account that pupils are tired of distance learning, a result of measures to reduce the rapid spread of Covid-19, a prolonged school year could further degrade their emotional well-being, the government explained.
