Today and tomorrow air temperature in Latvia is expected to reach +33° C. This is why Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre has declared orange level warning.
After summer solstice weather in Latvia is dictated by an anticyclone. This anticyclone brings hot masses of air to the region. Wind speed is low and there are few clouds in the sky. Air temperature reached +32.6° C in Ventspils on Sunday, 26 June, according to meteorologists.
On Monday and Tuesday air temperature in Latvia may reach +33° C at times. At night air temperature will not drop below +20° C. This means extreme heat will be present during the day in most of the country.
Intense heat is expected in Riga this week. This means intense heat during the day and slow cooling at night. The situation is similar in other cities – the air there may heat up more than in the countryside.
Reminder! Residents should not stay under direct sunlight for a long time, especially in the middle of the day.
It is advised to drink more water and more often during the day. Daytime activities that could create risks for health should be made shorter (manual labour, outdoor sports, leisure on the beach, etc.).
