Latvia adopts a new hotline service for people suffering from addiction

The 6th of May will mark the start of a new consultation hotline 67037333 for people suffering from addiction, as reported by the Disease Prevention and Control Centre (SPKC).
“Consumption of addictive substances is a widely-spread problem in Latvia. Nearly one-third of residents aged 18 to 74 in Latvia consumed tobacco and/or nicotine-containing products in 2023,” SPKC comments.
The centre notes that Latvia is in first place among member states of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. The tendency of trying narcotics for the first time is also on a rise.

The point of this new hotline is to provide anonymous psychological aid, motivate and support residents

to help them change their habits, as well as provide useful information about available resources and services to treat addiction. Residents will be provided with consultations on ways to break tobacco, alcohol, narcotics and gambling addiction, as well as gambling-related problems.
The service will be available on work days 09:00-18:00. The call will be charged according to the cost of the operator tariff plan used by the caller when calling phone numbers serviced by mobile communication operator LMT LLC.
The service itself is part of Ministry of Health “Plan for Preventive Measures and Improvement of Health Care Services in the Field of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Reduction for 2023-2025”.
The service will be provided by Health Centre Vivendi LLC until the 4th of May 2025.
